Occasionally you may pick up a bargain on eBay, as I sometimes sell discontinued cards, or experimental pieces of work there. Click the link above, or type Helen Drewettinto the eBay ‘search title and description’ to find any current auction listings.
The old saying that counting sheep helps you drop off to sleep was the inspiration for this piece. I have cut the sheep by hand and stitched them in place, here and there, facing this way and that, so a child could count them. The words are very carefully stitched by hand also: 'How Many? When you know you'll be fast asleep'
The work is framed in an 8"/20 cm square frame in a lightly distressed whitened wood and will arrive with glass in place, corded, ready to hang. As there is glass in the frame, please bear in mind that this is not a toy to be given to a child, but a picture to be hung on a wall.
The mount carries the title 'Counting Sheep' and is signed. Although I do repeat my designs from time to time, no two works are ever the same, as the threads and fabrics vary and design details are always evolving. Should you decide to buy this is the actual piece of my hand stitched workl you will receive.
This embroidery would be a suitable gift for anyone who has trouble sleeping - or a nice addition to the guest bedroom perhaps? It's not just for the little people!
